mod statement

Hola my dear internauts,

It is I, the frothing moderator of the zine, Epi (@eponimood). You may recognize me from a previous fanzine project that was also born on a whim, much like the one at hand, the so-called “Oni Kirishima zine”. Well, I’m back at it again, ‘cause apparently, my response to stressful situations around the world is to make fanzines to help however possible.

To keep it short, as I type this, it’s Pride Month, and the world is undergoing deep changes because people are fighting against corporations and their governments for their rights during a pandemic, the most notable being the BLM movement in the USA. People are being stripped of their rights for a peaceful life, and many are risking their life to have their voices heard. It’s all pretty scary, and did I mention fucking stressful? But I’m pretty sure you all know this better than I do.

For this reason, I decided to ask my good friends Lili (@lililovesyou_), Kit (@kit__b) and Roam (@kiribaku511), to join me on this new quest. They said yes in a heartbeat and hopped onto the bandwagon, and I owe this zine to all of them for being the three cornerstones of the project while I just... Kind of… Hang around. The team clicked together immediately, and I’m saying this ‘cause I was sure they already knew each other, so when I saw them making formal introductions, I kinda wanted to smack my forehead or something- BUT IT’S ALL GOOD, they’re already collectively bullying me. It’s only fair.

Of course, they were like “oh yeah werewolf krbk ur new hyper-fixation but could u tell me more abt it”, which, again, it’s only fair. So, I thought I’d share more insight on the theme of the zine with all of you as well.

Why did I choose a werewolf AU?

Well, first of all, and this shouldn’t be a surprise, werewolves are smokin fuckin hot. Tall, broad-shouldered, covered in fuzzy and soft fur, shape-shifting under the moonlight… I dreamy sigh. None of that Harry Potter Skinny Werewolf shit. We talkin Van Helsing beefcakes.

Second of all, I chose them for the very shape-shifting value that werewolves hold, in order to become their true selves. The more I thought about it, the more I realized just how tragic the figure of a werewolf can be: they long for their own kind, often seen howling their sorrows at the moon in hopes to be found- to be heard and comforted by somebody who will understand how despairing it is being unable to show yourself freely and proudly.

Not all of it is sad, though. Werewolves are also notoriously strong creatures: they can bite and slash their enemies, and I think it’s not too far-fetched to assume they would also take great care of their pack, if they formed one. I also personally think that most of them would be pacific and kind, ‘cause have you ever seen a wolf?? Really good wild babies.

So, in short, I wanted this zine to follow a theme that somehow feels very relatable to a lot of us (unfortunately so). During these harsh times, it’s extremely easy to fall into an endless pit of hopelessness and loneliness, to feel like everything is in vain and all you can do is howl your sorrows at the moon- because life is harsh, and everything inside and outside you is crumbling down.

And yet, not all of hope is lost. To bare our teeth and bite the hands that feed us lies; to shift into a skin that feels comforting and comfortable, that rings true to us; to find somebody that will support us through the thick and thin and give us a shoulder to cry on, and for us to do the same in return: this, that is like a second nature that longs to raise from the darkness of despair, is what I want to celebrate with the help of my friends, and the help of everyone who’d like to get involved with us.

For this reason, much like the previous project I had the delight to work on, the “Howl-O-Ween Zine” will be an EXPERIMENTAL PROJECT, aimed to showcase all sides of what is (feels like) to be a werewolf, using Bakugou and Kirishima as guinea pigs to explore the theme.

Therefore, during applications, it only makes sense that we will be looking not only for the usual zine criteria, depending on whether you submit a piece of text or a piece of illustration, but MOST OF ALL we’ll be looking for creative, unconventional, grotesque means of expression.

Show us whatever you find gratification in making, or what you love creating the most: sketch pages, journal entries, cosplays (fursuits maybe??), photos, music, traditional art, futuristic art, tutorials, comics, poems, pottery art-- anything you can think of, and that you think would fit the theme of the zine. Surprise us and surprise yourself!

I’d also like to clarify that the zine is targeted to a public of adults because, while werewolves are hot (let’s not forget that), we also think that other traditional themes associated to werewolves, such as blood, violence and a good amount of darkness, MUST be allowed in a zine focused around them. And, as a heads-up, while the contents of the zine will not shy from ranging from sensual to sexual, from suggestive to explicit, it’s safe to expect a LOT of content with Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, so be aware of that if this kink squeaks you.

In either case, we DO NOT allow REAL-LIFE pornographic and/or illegal material: if, during the application period, such contents will be updated, the application will be automatically rejected, and in case of illegal material, the submitter will be reported.

Furthemore, to celebrate the variety of people who are brought together in projects such as this one, we would be excited to have pieces of text written in your own language within the zine, as long as you’re able to provide us with a faithful, correct translation of the paragraphs! We encourage you to express yourself comfortably!

And last but not least, taking inspiration from real-life packs of wolves, this project will NOT HAVE any sort of GUEST. Each and every wolf works with the rest of the group for the well-being of everyone: taking this in stride, we will NOT invite any writer or artist, and there will be NO guest reveals, to give everyone a fair shot to get in, and not discourage people new to this side of the fandom to apply. Is this going to be a good idea? We don’t know, but it’s gonna be fun to find out together!

And this concludes our statement about how and why the zine was born. In particular, I’d like to express my best well-wishes to my friend Kale, who is going through some tough shit. If you’re reading this, I love you dude. Stay strong.

We hope that, all in all, when you, my good furry reader, will think back to this little fan project, you will feel happy and have at least some small, positive memories from this messy period in history. Fandom spaces should bring people together, so we hope that whether you’ll be a contributor, a donor, or a simple by-stander, you’ll help us make this small time... A swell time :)

Once again, my most heartfelt thanks to the rest of the incredible mod team. Without you guys this wouldn’t be possible, and I’m amazed by you guys’ talent and tenacity. It’s truly my pleasure to be working alongside you all.

Thank you for your time, which is the greatest gift you could ever give to someone.
Stay thirsty, stay foolish,
— Mod Epi

Q: What the FAQ is this?
A: This is the “Howl-O-Ween Zine || An R-18 Werewolf KiriBaku Zine”. Like the name suggests, this is a fanzine focused around the BNHA pairing Kirishima/Bakugou, exploring their relationship if they were werewolves, or were-people.

Q: Is this a physical zine, or is it digital PDF?
A: This is a digital fanzine that will be distributed in PDF format on October 31st 2020 to anyone who will fill the designated form when the time comes.

Q: Kinda lame, dude. I sorta don’t wanna pay for it.
A: This is your lucky day!! This zine is going to be FREE TO DOWNLOAD. However, we also believe in solidarity among people. For this reason, within the form you’re going to have to fill to receive your copy of the zine, you will find 4-5 links that will direct you to 4-5 CHARITIES of our choice: we encourage you to make a donation to at least one of them, and help someone else out.

Q: What charities are they? I wanna check them out first.
A: That’s totally fair. These are charity we chose- be aware that most of them are local to the countries us mods live in, and only one is northen american.

Q:Do y’all have any previous modding experience?
A: Most of us do! Mod Epi (previously Mod Shila) and Mod Lili have been respectively the head-mod and the graphics mod for the “King of the Mountain || An R18 Oni Kirishima Fanzine”; Mod Kit has been the general mod for the “Yukimi - KRBK Holiday Zine” and modded "Blossoming - a FMAB zine"; Mod Roam has no previous zine experience, but we’re teaching him well.

Q:How many contributors are you looking for?
A: We’re looking for more or less 25 people, depending on the number of applications we receive. We’re looking for all sorts of creators: writers, illustrators, musicians, videomakers, animators, poets- anything really

Q:Hold up could you repeat that? That’s a lot of content creators.
A:Yes it is! For more information about the nature of this zine, please check out our Official Statement.

Q: So, how much “werewolf” are we talking? I kinda wanna get into this now.
A: As long as your interpretation of a werewolf includes, for aesthetic purposes, at least:
-body fully covered in fur;
-wolf ears;
-wolf tail;
-(optional, but preferred) protruding fangs, nails and wolf nose;
you can go ham from there. If you want to make your wolf huge and have massive paws, and an even bigger kn*t you’re MORE than welcome to!

Q: Does this mean I should expect a lot of Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics in the zine?
Yes. Yeah. Si. Oui. Awo.

Q: What kind of A/B/O is accepted? And are there any unwelcome kinks?
A: Any kind of A/B/O is welcome, since the zine contents will be properly tagged at the beginning, so you can avoid any triggering content. Due to the mods being unable to provide enough encouragement for certain kinks, necro, extreme gore, and shota/lolicon will not be accepted in the production phase. Stuff like omorashi and cum-inflation is okay.
